The French Revolution
- A number of women got angry at the fact that Queen Marie Antoinette was living a luxurious lifestyle while they were starving. So, they started a march to Versailles to fight for their rights.
- King Louis XVI tried to compromise by making the First and the Second Estates pay more taxes, but he was unsuccessful because the two estates were more powerful than him.
The Tunisian Revolution
- The rage of the middle class men rose and the government couldn’t keep the citizens’ rage down. Intellectuals and activists assembled on social networks (mostly Facebook, because it’s the more used one in the country) and arranged online actions and planned for the revolution.
Similarities and Differences
Similarity:
Difference:
- The Late Reaction of the Government: In both Revolutions, the anger felt by the middle class men rose to the point that it was too late to block the revolutions from occurring.
Difference:
- To What Extent the Government/Ruler Was an Absolute One: In the French Revolution, King Louis XVI actually attempted to equalise the taxation between the social classes, but was unsuccessful due to the rejection of powerful nobles, meaning he had less power than them. On the other hand, former President Ben Ali stayed consistent and refused to change the policies of Tunisia, meaning he had the most power.
